Asking Questions in Tagalog

In the previous posts, we have learn how to greet in Tagalog and some of the most basic conversational phrases in Tagalog. In this post, we are going to focus on asking and replying to questions.

What? /Ano?

What is it?/Ano iyon? 

What is that?/ Ano iyan?

What are those?/Ano ang mga iyon?

Where?/ Saan?

Where is it?/ Saan iyon?

Where is that? Saan iyan?



When? / Kailan?

When is that? Kailan yan?

Why? / Bakit?

How? Paano?


Sample Sentences

What time is it? Anong oras na? 

Where you going? San ka pupunta? 

Kailan uwi mo? When will you come home?

Bakit late ka? Why are you late?

Paano mo ginawa yan? How did you do that?

Translations

iyan (that), iyon (same meaning as iyan but usually used to mean "is it"), oras (time), na (in this context, it means now), pupunta (going, future tense of punta (to go)), uwi (come home), ka (you), ginawa (past tense of gawa (do)).
