Tagalog (or Filipino) is the first language used in the Philippines. Filipino is the official international name of the language but locals usually call it Tagalog. Tagalog is the more formal Filipino used in textbooks and by newspapers and newscasters. Filipino is the conversational form of Tagalog and it is often mixed with other languages particularly English and Spanish.
Well, in this blog, the difference does not matter much really. We will use the term Tagalog and Filipino interchangeably. I will note if the phrases or sentences are formal or not.
Remember also that if you can speak English well, then there is nothing much to worry about if you go to the Philippines. Most Filipinos can understand English and many can speak the language pretty well.
Enjoy this blog and I hope it will be of great help to you. Learn and enjoy!
